Ùsaid - Usage

This template for use on talk pages (and comparable pages, such as noticeboards) to show clearly that a discussion or section thereof is off-topic, so that later editors can skip over it if they want to.

Placing {{Off-topic talk}} on a talk page makes the following appear:

• {{Off-topic talk}} → N Off-topic

You may either use {{Off-topic talk}} by itself for the default message or you may customize with optional parameters.

First parameter, a.k.a. |1=, |reason=, or |note=:

• {{Off-topic talk|Inter-personal disputes belong in user talk or at a noticeboard; this talk page is for improving the article.}} → N ': Inter-personal disputes belong in user talk or at a noticeboard; this talk page is for improving the article.

To produce the symbol alone, use a single space.

• {{Off-topic talk| }} → N ':  

Second parameter, a.k.a. |2=, |label=:

• {{Off-topic talk|WP:TFD is only for actual templates; for template redirects, use WP:Redirects for discussion|Wrong venue}} → N Wrong venue: teachdaireachd gnàthaichte

If you want to change the label (second parameter), but not add a customized message (first parameter), you must invoke the second parameter by its position or by its name, like so:

• {{Off-topic talk|2=leubail gnàthaichte}} → N leubail gnàthaichte
• {{Off-topic talk|label=leubail gnàthaichte}} → N leubail gnàthaichte

This template will cleanly subst:, though there's not any particular reason to substitute it.
