Naming Conventions[deasaich]

Template Names[deasaich]

Use abbreviations and language codes when naming templates for easier editing. See Roinn-seòrsa:Teamplaidean for the existing templates.

  • Template names delimited by equal signs indicate that they affect the highest order headings. E.g., {{=x=}}.
  • Template names delimited by dashes indicate that they affect a subheading. E.g., {{-x-}}.
  • Template names consisting only of a language code are called language templates. I.e., {{language code}} is the format of a language template name. These templates overload the language code function to return data and metadata in Scottish Gaelic, ISO 639-5 codes, and English about the language in question. The language template names may be ISO 639-2, -3, or -5 language codes.

Category Names[deasaich]

Spell things out in category names for legibility and clarity. See Roinn-seòrsa:Bunasach (root category).

The family of templates to which this one belongs, the language templates, store data and metadata about the languages used in definitions. This information can be useful for many applications beyond generating definitions.
These templates are handy for non-native Gaelic speakers: if it turns out that the wording is wrong in this particular template, all the pages and page names that employ it may be changed immediately simply by editing this one specific template.

This template:

  • Optionally creates a Table of Contents.
  • Draws a box around the text for the current language entry. See bean for an example of multiple language entries on a single page.
  • Creates the specified language heading.
  • Adds the entry page to the "Roinn-seòrsa:Faclan (genitive of specified language)",‎ aka "Category:Faclan (genitive of specified language)". See Roinn-seòrsa:Faclan a-rèir cànain for a list of existing word categories by language.
  • Adds itself to Roinn-seòrsa:Teamplaid cànain (sic), aka Category:Teamplaid cànain (sic; Caveat scriptor: I was just learning Gaelic when I built Roinn-seòrsa:Teamplaid cànain; by the time I realized my grammatical mistake, there were simply too many template members in the category to rename it).

  • Parameter 1 (required): language code for the first language subheading and the Roinn-seòrsa\Category page title.
  • Parameter 2 (optional): the constant "toc" (minus the double quotes). If the TOC parameter is present, this template will build a Table of Contents (TOC).

Use this template to create an Entry Heading on a Definition Page.

Create an Entry Heading along with a Table of Contents on a Head Word Page[deasaich]

Use this mode for the first entry on a page. This example would generate an Ainu Entry.

Create an Entry Heading without a Table of Contents on a Head Word Page[deasaich]

Use this mode for a subsequent entry on a page. This example would generate a Basque Entry.
